Jeans measurement guide

There are a few basic measurements needed to help you get a great fit the first time. This is how we measure all jeans for the fit charts on each style.  Sizing changes from style to style and fabric to fabric, please see the product pages for more detail.

For this example we’re measuring a size 33 02115 slim straight made from 16.75 Kaihara selvedge denim.

Compare these measurements to freshly laundered or soaked jeans to get and idea of the fit.  Keep in mind waistband measurements will stretch more than thigh, knee and hem measurements.

Waistband

The jeans are laid flat on a table and front and back of the waistband are matched together.  The measurement is taken from the top most edge of the waistband.

Rise

The front rise is measured along the center front from the inseam to the top of the waistband.

Thigh

Thigh measurements are taken 1″ down the inseam and perpendicular to the outseam.  Be sure to include all fabric at this level, not just the front panel.

Knee

The knee measurement is taken 13.5″ down the inseam and perpendicular to the outseam.  Include all fabric from the front and back panels.

Hem opening

The hem opening is measured near the standard inseam length (typically 35-37″).  Inseam lengths vary product to product, please check on the webstore.

Fit chart

The fit data is recorded into a size chart like this for each product.  There will be some tolerance from these specs and your delivered pair.
